hi i have a 1991 240sx hatchback. About 3 weeks ago the car died on me. It would stall while in motion. BUt some how it would start itself back up again. Then about 2 weeks ago it died and this time it didnt start up. It had no more power. I figured my alternator was bad, so i go another alternator and recharged my battery just to be safe. Everything was fine for the next 2 weeks. Now the car dies at random times. It just shuts itself off. Then these no power for about a minute. Its scary because it died on the freeway once. I can crank the engine but it wont start. IF i let it chill for a minute, the power will come back on. THe car will start, but if i leave it to warm up it dies. I popped the hood open to check it out. I found that there was hose that was lose because when i touched it, the engine would start to die. So i tightened the hose. It helped a little bit. But i dont understand why my car dies and has no power. I think my intake might be dirty or the maf is bad. I read on the forum of these problems similair to mines. I dont know what to do. I really need to fix this problem, cant be stalling on me. so yea if you guy can help me out. Sorry for me writing so much, just trying to put in detailed what happen. thanks

So when it dies, it will crank and not start? You say later if you let it chill the power will come back on, so when it dies is it losing electrical power or it just won't start? The hose that was loose, what is it?

Basically, you need to duplicate this problem and check for fuel and spark while it is occuring. Also, check for codes if you haven't.

I guess its losing electical power. But the starter works and i think the stereo works too. It happen again last night. The dash light didnt power up, this time the starter didnt work. When i cranked it felt like the power was drained. I let it chill and then it started again. But it happened like 2 more times. After taht it was fine and i was able to make it home. THe loose hose was the hose that connects the throttle to the vavle cover. Its in on the valve cover in front of the injector on a ka24de. The hose is about 1 inche in diameter. I think my sparks and fuel is good. I hear the fuel pump everytime i crank. But i will check it again. As for the ecu codes. I havent really looked in to it. I will search the forum an figure taht out. I will do it later today, right now i got class i have to go too. Thanks

So my car dieded like 11 times today. IT dies while the car is either in motion or just idle. THe motor just shuts off, and the dash blacks out. The electronics in the car work though. pw, pl, radio, etc. BUt i let it cool down for a mintue and the car will start up fine and idle fine also. the problems isnt fixed but its my dd. So i have to fix this problem soon. I search around and found some similair cases, but they never said what the problem was. I check the ecu today and got the code 95 which is crank clog. Does anyone know where i can go from here. thx

Does it turn on like after a minute? Sounds like your ignitor or coil are bad. In that case replace your distributor (they're both in there). My friend with an Integra had that problem. Try the distributor!!

idk i think its code 95. I used this to guide me through the ecu codes. ITs my first time actually reading it. It blink 9 time slow. and then 5 times fast. it kept doing that. I figure it was 95 which is crank cog. here was the link i used to find that out. not sure if it is right.

To snowyred180,

Yea my car turns on a minute after. Do i need to change my disbributor? and do i change my ignitor and coil too? I dont really know. I thought it was some short or the ingnition. Maybe some relay is overheating sending wrong signals too the egine and cutting off the dash power. thanks for the input guys. keep them coming.

The ECUs in these things are messed up. They need to have an easy one where the light just blinks like in a honda.

The ignitor and coil are both in the distributor. Its two stones with one bird if you just replace the distributor. Plus, it is usually cheaper to just buy the whole distributor.

My friend's teg just shut off whenever it felt like it, and it would usually start up a minute after it stalled. Its a common problem with tegs. g2ic.com has a million threads on it...

Yea so tomorrow ill go check out the distributor. Thanks for the help i have been searching the forum and never found an explanation. ill let you guys know what happens when i get it replaced. But it might not happen until the weekend, but if i get the chance. It will be fixed sooner
