Need help figuring out what the crap is going on with my car. Ok first it will crank when its cold and drive for a few miles but then the check engine light comes on and the car dies. Sort of how a car with a fuel pump going bad would act, so I thought that was the problem the fuel pump. Its says on the screen may be gas cap loose, run out of fuel, ecm, and also says I don't need to have it towed to a dealer/stealer. I've tooken it back on the fuel cluster recall and got it straighten out. I've also replaced the fuel pump, filter, and gasket for the sending unit. Ok seems like the car is fine long as its cool but as soon as I take it down the road it shuts off and needs to cool off a bit before it wants to ride a couple of more miles. What else could it be really need help. Its not idling rough missing or anything. Just when I crank and go I've got about 5 to 10 minutes before she its gonna shut off. Is there a fuel pump module or something else? Seems like a sensor or something. Need help, thanks in advanced to every helpful person. Also it has about 101,000 on it if this helps!

Memphbull52,

Do you have a code reader? Pulling the code would really help narrow down the issue. From your post, it sounds like the CEL is coming on, so I would assume there's a code that pops with it and stays on.

My guess, from what you have described, is it might be the p0340 code. I had a very similar situation in which the camshaft position sensor was out. It would start, run for about 30 miles, then die. Once it would die, I would have to let it sit for 5-10 minutes to cool, then I could start it again... Then it would only go about 5-10 miles before shutting down because the engine was already warm. There are 4 sensors that may be bad with that code, but having the reader will confirm its the sensors. Its a pretty common problem, but getting a code reader will tell you a lot more. Otherwise, its anyone's guess.

Hopefully that helps!

Thanks that was very helpful I'm wondering now is this may be the problem because they've issued a recall on these sensors as well back in december of 03. Will the dealer still honor this recall even though its been this long. The recall was for the crank position sensor, camshaft position sensors and in some cases, the variable timing control sensors. What you have described is exactly what my car is doing thank you for your help. Do dealers still have to honor recalls or is it a time frame thing on them?

Yeah, actually that recall did not apply to my VIN but it may apply to yours. I would call the dealership and ask them to run it. If I were you, I would read the code. If you don't have a reader, take it to Autozone and they will read it for free. If it is the P0340 code, I would change the camshaft position sensor first which is located about 8-12 inches below the variable valve sensor on the drivers side. I forget the cost of that sensor, but make sure you get the right part and buy it from INFINITI. You MAY get away with buying a sensor from Autozone/Pepboys/etc, but chances are the problem will still occur.

If you want more information on the issue, type "p0340" into the search box, and you'll get a bunch of hits here on NICO.

First things first though, I would read the code to make sure thats actually what it is.

Hope that helps!

Thank you very much :dblthumb: . Those sensors where the problem and that was the code I had gotten, I went ahead and replaced both and the car is wonderful once again. So thank you again! And again!!
