I tried to do my first oil change on my S13 today, but I was unable to remove the oil drain plug. I tried spraying WD-40 on it, and waiting for 5 minutes. Unfortunately, no luck. Anyone got any tips?

as long as you have the right sized wrench on it....get a pipe or something to put on the 'handle' side of the wrench. The added leverage should give you enough power to loosen it. Also there are products like 'liquid wrench' that works infinitely better to loosen bolts then WD40.

Goodluck

I suggest PB Blaster...loosens bolts like whoaa. Looks like no one drained your oil in a while, or didn't know how to do it when they did. THe bolt should NOT be torqued that tightly...

Anyway, don't use and open ended wrench, use a socket or the other end of the wrench, ideally, a 6-sided socket to prevent stripping. It shouldn't be that tight though. This should also probably be in the "general" section; removing the oil drain bolt isn't very technical.

Good luck!

PB Blaster is great stuff. I used when I changed my suspension and it helped a lot.

Kid, you just need to start developing the STRONG HAND. It will come in no time. You'll be cracking bolts with just your hands.

What kind of tools do you have? Are you using a box wrench or something? Use a wratchet and socket. If you still can't get it loose, use a breaker bar. If you still can't get it loose, put the old cheater bar or pipe around it. If you can't get it loose with that, You are probably turning clockwise and you are ****ing up your oil pan so go get your dad to help you. I'm sure he has the STRONG HAND already.

Remember, counterclockwise to loosen things.

Ok, I finally got it. I sprayed some Liquid wrench on it, and about ten minutes, tried it. I don't think I needed the liquid wrench, though. Like Flybert said, I needed to use the strong hand. I was scared of twisting the head off, like I did on arcade machine that I was working on. :rolleyes

I just finished everything, but I made quite a mess.:D I think my oil drain tub had a hole in it, because I'm sure it was pouring right on to it, and I had removed the plug, so I know that wasn't the problem. When I turned the tub over, some oil seemed to be running from the bottom. It's really dark now, so I can't tell. Damn, I had to use up all my cotton diapers to get that mess up. They were dirty anyway, though.

Flybert, I used a ratchet and 14mm socket. Normally, my dad would help me, but I'm about 16 hours away at college. He advised me to get the liquid wrench, though.

Oh yeah, thanks for the help, everyone!:)

I've learned many important things from my pops while working on my car and one thing that he always tells me is that you can't be gentle when working on your car. Sometimes it takes some rough and tough action and if you try to be gentle, you'll never get things done. Just make sure that when you tighten things back up that you don't tighten things tooooo much and preferably use a torque wrench if you have an FSM.
