I just cranked the engine for the first time after the turbo install and I'm not getting any oil pressure. The oil pan was removed to get the return bung welded on. The oil pickup in the pan was also removed since I did not drop the subframe, but it is back on now. I'm using the 4AN JGS feed line. Not only is the oil pressure light not going off, but my feed line is bone dry. Should I be getting oil in the feed line just with cranking the engine? I cranked the engine several times for about 20 sec each time with the spark plugs out.

Also, I did reuse the gasket for the oil pickup which is a no-no according to the service manual. Too bad I checked the manual now and not beforehand. It just seemed that a metal gasket like that should be just fine for reuse. Any thoughts?

isn't there supposed to be an o-ring between the oil pick up and the front cover? that if you take out oil pressure wont be right?, if you reused it that could be bad.

Same thing happened to me with a freshly built motor...I'd suggest pulling the fuel pump fuel too, otherwise you'll have a flooded engine.

It took a LOT of times cranking the engine over before I finally got oil pressure. And yes, oil should be flowing through the feed line to the turbo...I disconnected mine and put it in a milk jug to make sure there was pressure. Also what I did was forced (pumped) oil through both the turbo feedl ine and my oil cooler feed-line, using a vacuum pump to try and "prime" the thing and get the oil pump, if air-locked, to move. Might want to try that, it's easy enough to find some fittings at the hardware store to do this.

Yeah, I pulled the fuel pump fuse so the engine wouldn't get flooded.

I redirected the feed line to the ground and cranked the engine for about 40 seconds. Finally, oil started to slowly come out of the line. Unfortunately, I have a leak at the back of the pan so it will have to come off again. This time I'll be dropping the subframe to do it right and make sure I have a uniform layer of RTV all around.

Thanks for the help.

doesnt doing this (cranking it with no oil pressure) hurt all the parts that are supposed to get oil, or am I not understanding the problem right?

I think that with no heat from combustion and no compression in the engine, it really shouldn't hurt it. Plus in my case, the engine wasn't completely dry as it was only drained for 2 weeks. I'm sure there was still a thin coat of oil on the vital parts. However, to be honest I still cringed as I cranked it for such a long time.
