That's not normal. The timing should stay where you set it. If I remember correctly my brothers KA-T skipped timing and ran like crap for a week till we reset it. We ended up setting it right, and it ran just perfect.... For about 7 minutes then we crashed it on the test run cuz this huge f250 was in the middle of the road trying not to hit his mailbox. Needless to say, cresting a hill at 90mph while dodging a ford equals hitting a ditch, 2 trees, and required me to be life-flight from being KO...
Your best bet is setting the timing again and then hand crank the engine once and check timing again.. IMO
