Help! Gauge cluster shorting out!

Alright everyone,

I am wondering if I have a big problem on my hands. Here is the deal with my 2001 Path LE. Recently, when I take my two hour trips to VT (this only happens on long trips), my gauge cluster will stop working. The needles will fall on the gas, oil temp, tach, etc. Also, my digital odometer will go blank! The lights will stay on in the dash, so it may be serveral minutes before I look down and realize that my gauge cluster is not reading anything at all. The truck runs fine, everything else is in working order.



The funny thing is... as soon as I shut the truck off and turn it back on, everything works fine. Another thing, that may not be so funny, is that I do not think that my vehicle is tabulating milage when the cluster goes dead!!! I reset my trip odometer before every trip and the two times that this has happened to me... the trip odometer (not sure about the actual milage odometer) is short about 50 miles or basically where ever the gauge cluster died. I am just assuming that if the trip odometer stops tabulating milage, then the odometer will as well.

So I have confirmed this past weekend, that milage is not tabulating on the trip odometer as well as the main odometer. This could be a problem folks... any help would be appreciated!

This forum is awesome! I will just keep replying to myself.... and who knows, maybe I will come up with some reason as to why my vehicle is having this problem. JK, sort of, I know that this is an uncommon problem and no one else has experienced it.... but still.
