Help! Fuel gauge is dead. Low Fuel light works.

I just got a 1997 J30. I really like it, but I also really like to know how much gas I have and the fuel gauge is on empty even when completely full of gas. I did notice that the low fuel light does come on when fuel level in tank is low enough. Is this a sending unit issue???
