Help from someone in the San Francisco area
Can somebody in the San Francisco help me out by checking out a car? It's a G20, located in Freemont. My friend is interested in it, but she wants a third party to check it out before she/we go get it.

I am in the SF Bay Area - pretty close to Fremont. I could check it out, but I'd need to know (in detail) what she and you guys think I should look out for! Well the main thing is, look for the obvious.
Make a note of any dings, scratches, etc. Verify the mileage (he says 80k). Take it for a test drive, make sure the clutch isn't slipping. Listen to the engine, make sure it sounds ok. Check the oil. Check the oil under the oil fill....make sure there is not varnish on the cams (if you can see them).
You know, the basic things you would look for in any car. Email me your phone # and I will get information on exactly when and where the car is and I'll relay it to you. I have to get the info from the seller.
Oh yeah, the car is slightly modded. See if the guy still has the original parts, although that is not very important.

I work a short distance from Fremont. I also work at a shop. If you want, you can arrange to have them bring the car to the shop and we car rack it up, check it out and I can have my mechanic buddies give a list of what they find. No charge for that, it's all in my control. Otherwise I can drop by and check it out on the way home. I'd go for the rack idea though so that we can get a good look at it. One of our mechanics actually owns a 94 G20, so he knows what to look for.
