Hi there, im new to the 240sx (s13) and i have a problem i cant figure out. ok let me start off by saying i own a 1990 240sx hatchback 5spd manual transmission that i picked up this weekend. the engine was not running so it had to be towed. once arriving at the location the car was in we rolled it over to the street (front and backwards) and it rolled up the trailer perfectly fine. we loaded it up on the trailer tied it down and drove it home (50 miles). once getting home my issue started, we could not get it to roll down. first thing i did was losent up the hand brake though it would be stuck so i did jacked up the car to see if the tires would spin and they did. i noticed this, when i would turn one wheel forward the other wheel would spin the opposite?? (why?) next thing i did, was blead all the brakes but no good. car would still not roll. i tried puting on gear, neautral and pressing the clutch and nothing. it would not move at all. felt like if the brakes were on. so what i did was jacked the car again and removed 6 bolts from one axel and finally it rolled off the trailer. but im lost and have no idea why it does that. why does the tires spin the opposite when i had it jacked up in the air? makes no sense to me. i would appreciate some help. Thanks guys! :wtf2:

one tire spins becuase it has whats know as an open differential, meaning there is no locking mechanism in the differential to keep both wheels turning the same speed( or direction for that matter). from the dsound of it you need to pull the cover, i would pull the whole diff, and inspect the ring and pinion perhaps there are some broken teeth that causesed the diff to jam up.

thanks for the info, just strange to me that it rolled perfectly fine , im guessing al the moving in the trailer caused it to jam up? is that a posibility?

agreed

since you already ruled out your brakes... i'm guessing it's something in the clutch assembly that broke

I had my 2nd clutch set broke in a similar way; one of the springs on the pressure plate popped off & jammed the whole thing :(

wouldnt explain the whole not moving in neutral thing though, unless something in the trans broke as well

You could see if two people can force the wheels to turn the same direction, with it in neutral. I don't know how hard it should be, but not impossible.

Would at least tell you if the problem is in transmission/diff, or something else.

Either the trans is not in neutral, the clutch is bound, of it's something with the diff or shaft.
