I just put a 100 bucks down a a one owner dealer serviced 2001 sentra and the service engine light was on. the owner reassured me the light means nothin as the car runs very well. I see in the reliability rating the emmision system some problesm with emmisions and expensive parts that can total a bunch of money. can anyone shed light on this problem and how expensive it is to fix?

The parts with the big red flag on the internet are the MAf sensor, intake valve timign sensor and valve timing sensor. Is anyone familiar with these issues and the cost to repair? So often these light come up and you cna overlook them with if this is an issue I would have to get them fixed? or the harsh Minnesota winters will not ne kind I bet. It runs well now.

It would be easier to know the actual code that is being thrown.

You can get the code pulled for free at Autozone or Advanced. Post the code up here, or google it. That should tell you what component is malfunctioning.

The vehicle very well may be running fine, but if an emissions component is messed up, you wont pass inspection.
