hi guys,i just performed a swap due to my old motor blowing the headgasket (removing and replacing w/ another ka24de). the motor i bough had a nickle jb welded to the exhaust manifold which i guess renders the egr useless (and i have read about people doing this with no problems). well, i go get the car inspected and it fails due to high NO. i'm assuming it's due to this modification. what can i do to fix this? install my old exhaust manifold so i can plug the large metal tube back? i did not see another nickle plugging the egr valve itself, just on the ex. manifold.

please help!

here are my readings. all looks good except for NO.

25/25 test Reading Allowable ResultHC 016 132 passCO .04 .73 passNO 0043 0945 passCO + CO2 15.1 6 pass

50/15 test Reading Allowable ResultHC 013 136 passCO .02 .76 passNO 1697 1045 failCO + CO2 15.0 6 pass

so install my old headers back on? isn't removing the egr a common mod that people have done successfully?

You need to read up on the smog emissions system. The egr valve is one of the most important parts of the emissions systems since it recirculates your exhaust gases into the engine through the intake manifold. NO one has removed it to have a successful smog, where ever you got that info is dead wrong.....

i'm trying to fix the issue in which the previous owner has caused by plugging up the egr port on the exhaust manifold...not remove the egr system myself. telling me to "read up" as if i'm the one doing the wrong thing here doesn't help me. but no matter what, i'll be installing my old manifold back on.

The EGR is what is causing it to fail. if you fix it, it will pass. My friends s13 failed with about the same numbers and it didnt pass untill we got the EGR to work. Best of luck.

If you need any help with it, PM me.
