Can anyone help me... Ive had a problem with my 240 since yesterday. Well the problem is...yesterday I started smelling this burning smell (almost like the smell of caramel). And this morining on the way to work the engine got really hot. The temp warning light never came on.. but it still got up there to the second dot next to the H. But the funny thing was...It was running cold(on the C) almost the entire way to work, then about 1 min from work it started climbing. I opened the hood and looked around..I didnt see any leaks but i could smell that burning smell. Only thing I coudl see was the foam around the radiator hose was worn down from this huge battery terminal (the person who used to own my car put on there) but the hose itself didnt look punctured. Oh and another thing. My heater didnt work this morning at all...just blew cold air..even when the engine was running hot(i dont know if the two issues are realted) Im guessing that I might be low on coolant...but i didnt see where to check. Any help or suggestions would be greatThanx, daniel

Sounds like your thermostat got stuck.. Ya may need to replace that..Sounds like the simplest thing.

If the heater wasn't working and your car was running in the normal zone, more than likely you are out of coolant. Wait til the car is very cool, take the radiator cap off, fill it til it overflows. Then fil the over flow tank up to the cold mark. You may have to repeat the process due to an air pocket, but you should be ok. The burning smell was more than likely the smell of a very, very hot motor.
