HELP/ ENGINE CUT OUT REV.LIMITER OR TRANS. SWITCH

I'm racing a (or trying to race) an s13. but the engine cuts out for two or three seconds in third gear. this feels like a rev limiter but this may also be related to a speed switch on the trans. is this possilble?
