HELP. drivability problem

I have a 91 automatic S13, when I put it in drive and hit the gas to take off it throttles up to about 4000rpms like a man/trans in neutral but doesnt move till after about 5 seconds, then it moves and jerks forward but its like the rears wheels make the car shake and I hear something like a clanking noise under the car. Its doesnt do it in reverse or the lower gears d1 and d2, so im thinking it could the drive gear is messed up. Can anybody tell me exactly what the problem could be?also since its doin that i take off in d2 and just b4 it gets to 3000rpms i shift to the drive position and it syncs and keeps drivin normally, is that safe? thanks

Sounds like it's low on fluid... Go check it NOW!

Or not. I don't know what it could be. I would check the fluid though. You're not building pressure for it to go into gear.... that sound about right?

I just checked the fluid theres plenty, pretty much topped off so thats not the problem

Sounds like a pump going bad in the transmission!!! Time for a new trans.

thanks guys but this one mechanic told me it might the differential but its run fine in the lower gears so know I'm confused, anybody know wear in can find the parts to do a man/trans swap I might as well do that now if its the trans that's bad

you know your supposed to check the fluid when the cars running..

toss some brake fluid in there and sell..
