Help...deep scratches on shift knob from a ring (soft flat band), anyone else?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I bought the brand new car Sept 4th and there were scratches on the shift knob, look liked from a ring maybe when it was being detailed. The dealership offered me a new shift knob after completing 1000 miles on the car, I said no if they wanted me to pick up the car then they would replace it immediately. They did, I think they popped of the brushed silver piece and put on a new one.

But, only 2 weeks later I had on a white gold band and was sitting on the passenger side (not even driving) and grabbed the shift knob slightly and it caused a deep groove into the silver part again. Now I am wondering if they may have given me the original knob after all, possibly buffing it out?

Has anyone else had a problem with scratches on the knob? I take very good care of the vehicle and am always trying to prevent scratches on the interior components. I was really surprised of this happening.

Please let me know either way...I am sure that the dealership would rather not deal with this, but I honestly think it may be defective or have no protective clear coat over the brushed silver.

Thanks to all that reply.

Same on mine, delivered on 9/2 with a scratch on the aluminum part, I guess I was too lazy to raise an issue... watching the thread

G35's are the same. You can put a little 3M fil on it too save it from getting scratched.

Yep same on mine, but I can blame my wife that wears rings on the right hand, he he. The 3M film is the way to go.

Wow...same here. I bought my EX35 back in March....when I took delivery from the dealer, the silver bit on the shift knob had a deep gouge in it. The dealer swapped it out on my first service, no worries. (BTW, I have a GREAT dealer!)

In August, I broke my right hand and had to wear a cast (which is made out of fiberglass tape). After my first drive, I noticed the metal again is all scuffed and scratched up.

In my opinion, no way these should show so much wear from very simple contact. Infiniti has got to get this improved. I don't want to be swapping out shifter knobs every four to six months!

Welcome to our EX forum, freaksrus!

The dealer has now replaced my shifter twice because their employees scratched it on 2 separate occasions! I'm considering putting a sport sock over the shifter with an elastic, before bringing it in for further service.

Thanks for the welcome....."sock on shifter"...now that's an option you probably won't see in the commercials!
