ok, so i buy this murano 2 weeks ago, and i go down a hill on my commute that i normally use for "hypermileging", and this thing goes from 1,300RPM to 3000+RPM and gains no speed. my reaction was, :wtf2:

so i find this on another part of this site:

TM-105
DOWNHILL ENGINE BRAKE CONTROL (AUTO ENGINE BRAKE CONTROL)

When downhill is detected with the accelerator pedal released, the engine brake will be strengthened up by downshifting so as not to accelerate the vehicle more than necessary.

TM-111
WORK SUPPORT MODE

ENGINE BRAKE ADJ. The engine brake level setting can be canceled.
CONFORM CVTF DETERIORATION:The CVT fluid deterioration level can be checked.

Engine Brake Adjustment

“ENGINE BRAKE LEVEL”
0: Initial set value (Engine brake level control is activated)
OFF: Engine brake level control is deactivated.

CAUTION:
Mode of “+1” “0” “−1” “−2” “OFF” can be selected by pressing the “UP” “DOWN” on CONSULT-III screen. However, do not select mode other than “0” and “OFF”. If the “+1” or “−1” or “−2” is selected, that might cause irregular driveability.

so i call the dealership's service dept, he has no idea what i'm talking about! so i read the above to him, and he stutters even more saying i should ask my salesman! really?!??

i'm not at all happy with this.

Assuming you have an 09-10 Murano, a slight tap on the gas pedel should cancel the braking control. It does on our 09.

yes, i have a 2010 LE. thanks for the response! tried that, and it doesnt work, as soon as you let off the gas it spikes back up to 3000+ RPM. keeping the gas petal depressed works, but that not what i want to do lol

Update:

ok on my way home after typing the above, i experimented a bit more and found that if i ~repeatedly~ tapped the gas petal, it disengaged that silliness. but, still, there's got to be a better way! lol cause repeatedly tapping one's gas petal while descending a hill is a silly notion to start with!

For hypermilers why not shift to N and glide then back into gear at bottom of hill.

If you want to get best mpg then use cruse controll in city and turn off engine at Known long traffic lights not short ones. Do speed limit and limit AC use.

Works fine on my 09, I just need to press the gas a bit and the 'braking' disengages. We had a similar system on our RX and our GS does the same. Never really bothered me, and there are times when it's nice to have that braking effect, like the hill where the cop hides at the bottom.... :chuckle:

ok, heard back from the dealer today, head of service dept didnt know what i was talking about, so they asked their nissan rep (whoever/whatever that is...) when they were there Wednesday, and he/she didnt know what i was talking about and said they'd ask whomever signs their paychecks. my sales guy (who is telling me this story today and whom i know via other people, so he knows me essentially) said eveyone kept asking him "who the hell is this guy you sold the car to thats asking you this?! HAHA

anyhooo, he tells me that "they" finally figured out what i was talking about and would do it only if i sign multiple wavers! he added that "they" said it could possibly alter the way the CVT act at a stop adversely.

Well it seems like lots of Altima guys are having the "engine braking" feature disabled, no problem, no hassles or questions asked by their dealers, it appears to be a very minor change with no implications other than much better rolling down hills with the CVT staying in a higher gear. Check out this thread:

yea!, thats the thread i copied the quote in my OP from. and, you are right, the altima guys seemed to have no issues at all. me, on the other hand, have nothing but issues from my dealer. from a question/request they never had presented to them, to not knowing/believing what i was saying, to agreeing to do it if i give blood and my first born to them.

i now wonder if it model specific (murano vs. altima) or dealer specific (where i'm dealing w/ nitwhits)??

Just an update,

I have been fighting with Nissan Corp for 7+ months now regarding this issue! I am so absolutely sick of being treated like I am a mental midget by this company. at this point they want me to waive all my warranties, both factory and extended, completely in order to do this. I keep telling them to send my the paperwork and they keep b/s'ing me. i dont think there is any such paperwork!! i think i'm the only a$$hole on the planet that has questioned this!! Now they tell me that the extended warranty that i paid for will be "prorated" since the 60 days cancellation period is up! ex-freakin-cuse me?! yea i dont think so! its only passed 60 days cause they keep @#!$ ing me around! to be treated this way after dropping $40k+?! Nissan is a crap company and after i sue them to recoupe my loss, i'm buying an Explorer! this is crap.
