Last week my car would not start so I did a compression test, sure enough it was awful. 80, 110, 90, 120 if i recall correctly. Also had been using some coolant and running rough on startup. OK cool, 152000 miles of daily beating and the head gasket went. No big deal. I tore it all down today and after removing everything I went to pull the head itself off and it seemed to be stuck. I assumed it was the RTV on the timing cover and preceded to pry upwards on the far end of the head. CRACK.....s*** I look all over the other end and as it turns out I forgot to remove the bolt that's recessed into the timing cover and it cracked along the back of the cover right at the level of the head. The crack is all the way across the left(intake) side of the timing cover just above the level of the head mating surface.
My question is, What would you guys/(girls?) suggest I do to repair the crack. I don't want to have to remove the cover if at all possible. Is the timing chain area of the motor subject to oil pressure or is it oiled through splashing? I was thinking of cleaning it up really well and using the anaerobic sealer I've used to mate transmissions with? RTV maybe? Or do I need to have it welded? I doubt if I can find someone to weld it in the car but I am posting a Craigslist ad to attempt that. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Going to try to put the car back together Wednesday thanks in advance for the help.
