Hey guys I'm new to the forums and I've tried searching EVERYWHERE! This site, twinturbo.net and even aus300zx with no luck so far :frown: I have a 92 300ZX n/a, 5 speed, and as of a week ago it will not start. Not cranking or anything, i hear the fuel pump and the starter relay but the radio and climate control turn off and back on when i let go of the key. I replaced the starter, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, battery, battery terminals, alternator, ignition relay, starter relay. I have also checked all the other relays and fuses and the main grounds. I have the s2 PTU and checked that. Also have checked and cleaned the MAF and CAS connections. I'm just really lost guys and need some of your professional advice :)

you sure the motor is not seized up? go to the auto store and get a push start button. wire up the starter real quick and see if it starts then. otherwise you have a lot of relays and pages to look through in the FSM

Sure the ignition switch isn't bad? You say when you let it off start back into ON it kills other electricals.

I'm starting to think it is the ignition switch, when i turn it to START electricals turn off, when its back to ON they come back on. Also when i turn the key my check engine light doesn't come on, someone told me that means the ECU is not getting power, is that right? And how would i go about wiring the starter with the push start? Thanks for the replies guys

Definitely sounds like an ignition switch. I think mine is going or some wires are loose because I kind of get the same thing happening every once in a while. I'll turn the key trying to start it and nothing happens except electronics turn on/off as I turn the key. Brand new battery/starter, etc. just like you. Then after a few tries of jiggling the key it starts right up.

I've also noticed that the ignition seems a little loose, it wiggles around a bit, could that shorted something?

Also when I turn the key my check engine light doesn't come on like it's suppose to. Someone I spoke with said that could mean the computer is not getting power but I can still do the self diagnostics and its showing 55. That mean anything to anyone? :gotme

If the ecu wasn't getting power, the car wouldn't start at all plain and simple. it sounds like either the ignition switch itself is bad or the wiring going to it is loose/bad, etc. The check engine light could be unrelated, or the bulb could just be blown lol

So i just tried with a new ignition...no go :frown: my dad and my girlfriend's dad keep saying it's the computer, that it could've blown something internally. I just don't know anymore guys  All the replies are much appreciated tho!!

Got any buddies around with Zs? You could borrow an ECU as long as its an NA and test

So I tried with a different computer and a newer CAS and IT STILL WILL NOT START!!! I don't understand! I'm trying to do everything myself but I may just let this shop about an hour away look it over. Is there anything else you guys can think of to check? :frown: :frown: :frown:

It's possible but that's easy. Just pull the sensor and jump the plug with a paper clip to see if that was it, just make sure it's not in gear when you try.

Or the rubber stopper that attaches to the clutch pedal and pushes the CSS (clutch safety switch) could have fallen out.

Little more information...tried a new PTU and a new battery with no changes at all. Also I didn't say this before, when I got it, it started fine cold but when it was warm all it would do is crank. I'd have to wait HOURS before it would start again. Someone said that could be the PTU but I ruled that out already. Just throwing out some more info. Oh I also jumped the gap on the CSS with no change. Only thing I can think of now is the battery cables..not sure tho.. :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

OK Update!!! I charged the battery and cranked down on the terminals, turn to start it and got really rapid clicking from what sounds like the starter relay. Could it have gone bad even tho the car hasn't been started?

Got her started! Turns out I bought a bad starter and that relay was shot. Jumped it off and it stumbled and evenly died off...terrible misfire. #4 coil is broken ??? But it started up! Pulling the plugs next to see whats up there. Thanks for all the replies guys!!

Well have another issue...got it start and I've driven it around, but now it has an almost a pinging/hitting noise coming from the driver side. I think my AIV may have gone out too I have the gurgling. If i start it and idle for a while its fine at about 1k rpm (is that too high?) then it drops way off and stalls out. It sat for almost too months so I think it is either the gas octane dropping, injector got clogged, and my cats are kinda clogged. Anyone have some more brilliant ideas? Thanks for all your help guys!!!
