Hi, I own a 90 240SX and I am having a problem with the clutch/transmission. Whenever I shift into 2nd gear, I get a grinding noise like the sound u get when u try shifting into a different gear without pressing in the clutch all the way. Although I press in the clutch all the way, I still get the grinding noise. Although, if I take 1st gear to no further than 3000rpm, pop it into Neutral, then into 2nd after a whole second gap, I get little to no grinding noise at all. I do not get this noise when shifting to any of the other gears though. So I was wondering what this problem sounds like, and how I would go about fixing this.:help

Sounds like bad 2nd gear synchros. After probably another month or so of driving it like that, it'll eventually give out and you won't be able to get into 2nd at all. Your S13 probably has a lot of miles already, so maybe it's time for a rebuild.

Is this fixable or would I need a new transmission? And yeah my car has 160500 miles on it, how long do these engines usually last for?

Not fixable, need new transmission, get a junkyard one with lower miles, about $250 or so, engines last different times dependant on maintenance, history, driving habits, climates, etc. No way to tell what kind of miles your 160K is. Mine has about that and runs great, but it's been a college commuter car for more than a decade.

I have been having a problem with shifting seens i got my car back together.

It started about 1 week after i had the engine back in. I would be driving it for over 30min of say freeway driving. If i went to shift, i couldnt shift into any gear. i had to stop and let the car cool down. while it was cooling down i checked the clutch fluid and noticed that it was low (although it didnt look like it from the outside). so i also feild that up. on the way home later i had the problem again, also on a freeway. got off and let the car cool, then drove home. when i got home i Flushed the system with new fuild. I also checked the pedle as it seed that it would only alow me to disinage with fully pressed to the flore. the pedle was ajusted all the way down (so it would only work in the last part of the pedle movement. i fixed that so the clutch was disingaed about 1-2 inchs from the flore. the problem seemed to go away for about 2 weeks. know along with my timing chain problem i have had problems shifting into just about every gear. i figured that maybe the heat was causing the ruber line to flex and not pushing the clutch all the way out. but today it was not warmed up and doing the same thing. I belive it could be either the hydrolic clutch system and/or the through out baring. what do you all think?

I think it probably couldn't hurt to change out your master and slave cylinders if it's leaking fluid (since you said it was down), you can get everything you need to change them both with new ones for under $50 at AutoZone. If you do that then it's down to pedal adjustment and the status of your current clutch/pressure plate.

Well the clutch was replaced last summer with a SPEC stage 1 clutch

I believe there is, a 240 transmission shouldn't be too hard to find though. I HIGHLY suspect your master and slave cylinders, and for the cost to replace them I say you do that first. The throwout bearing and pilot bearing should have been replaced along with the clutch and pressure plate, so I doubt that your problem lies there.

yeah thats what i was thinking, i was just wondering about the hardbody transmission if it had lower gearning or anything, as if it did that would be a cheaper way of lowering your gearing then changing your ring and pinion on your stock dif.

Nope, same gearing, different bellhousing. And if you drive your car on the highway at all lowering your gearing will make it a PITA on your gas mileage, etc. Changing the ring and pinion is about the only way to get lower gearing.
