Hey everyone, just picked up some 280Z rims at a junkyard yesterday, aka "swaztikas" or whatever. all four have some not so bad oxidation and caked on dirty shhtuff. i was wondering what the best way to clean both the polished lip and the center part is. today at work i was using a very fine steal wool piece with laquer thinner and it seemed to work well,on the lip of course. but are there any better ways with better and quicker results? thanks for help everyone.

You can get them sand blasted. Or maybe soda blasting would be better. gl with the wheel restoration. :bigthumb:

S100 polishing soap tends to work pretty well on things like that.

Nice find dude! The steel wool prob did a good job cutting through all of that grimy buildup. After that I would suggest using some aluminum polish to refine the work you did with the steel wool. You can do this by hand, but I would suggest using something like the mothers powerball, or you could fab up something yourself. This will aid in getting inside all those nook and crannys. You can make aluminum look like chrome if you spend enough time. So be patient, any questions just hit me up! :bigthumb:

I bought some oven cleaner, saw it used on a different forum, looked like it worked well. not on the lip but on the spokes. gonna try it for myself this week and see how it turns out.

I wouldnt use oven cleaner on aluminum. It oxidizes it.
