NEED new speakers in my 240,

I was wondering what size the door speakers were stock? and also what the biggest I can fit in there without having to cut it to ****..

Also, are 6x9's what I use in the back?

Thank you for any help as it is appreciated Greatly

Personally I would use 6.5" front and rear, if you are going to run an amp get a decent set of components up front nothing fancy for the rears they're just fill

stock is 4x6 all around. but there are plenty of kits to adapt them to 6.5" for all four corners. not many people make good 4"x6". does anyone know who makes an adaptor to run 6"x9" in the rears?

my car's previous owner used sheetmetal to fit the 6x9 on one side and a cut up piece of plastic on the other.

get a radial saw and a drill, and you can make some.

6x9s are a waste of time making fit IMO and 6.5s sound better

You can get 6.5 inch adaptors on ebay for like 10-15 bucks. Then on the rears if it's a coupe it already has 6.5's but if it's a hatch then they're 4x6". You can get some decent infinity's at best buy for about a hundred bucks for the pair. Or a local guy here ordered some boston 4x6's from broadfield on this forum and i put them in for him and they sound pretty nice as well.

I also throw those in for $5 or so with a speaker purchase.

I personally love my fosgate 6.5 setup, they sound clean and have a good bump. I actually sold my 15" because it was just too much bump.

I had the same ?s like u. People told me diff, even crutchfield. I have a 95 s14 base, than your speaker size is 5.25inch all around, front and rear. Althought u could go with bigger size, but u will need a bracket to install. Just a heads up.

You mentioned biggest so I'm assuming you want loud?

My bad if you already know this... You'll need an amp to power the speakers if you want loud because the stock HU blows balls. You can get mp3 + ipod connection. Alpine makes tons of different HUs, and you can ask broadfield about what you need to fit price range.

Screw 4x6, 6x9 and anything else. Get 6.5" speakers & adapters. You just have to mount speakers to adapter, then adapter to door panel. Either Broadfield ($5 w/ speaker purchase.) or ~$30 shipped on ebay (front and rear) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...60393h ... rs...09967

There are a **** load of speaker manufacturers... Focal, Infinity, Diamond, Sony, MA, Rockford Fosgate and countless others with low/med/high end speakers. I've heard good, the bad and everything in between, but one company sticks out, Boston Acoustics. check em out They have the baller Pro 60 and not so baller but still very good SL60.

I really don't know how much your trying to spend... If you feeling baller get 6.5s in the rear w/ adapters, but if your on a budget Boston S75 ($75 4x6) will do fine. It'll fit in stock location with no adapter.

In the middle of a sounds project myself... Learning everything as I go along... so if you have any questions, I've done a lot of the leg work so I could probably help you out a bit. Let me know bro..

Get speakers from Broadfield, I have bought an Alarm, and speakers from him. His deals are good, and he throws in a lot of stuff for cheap (wires, screws, etc.) which makes his deals GREAT!And he also offers him self as free tech support in case you need help with anything.

I bought the 6.5" adapter plates off ebay. The front ones were super easy to install, just a matter of getting the door panel off, then the stock speaker with its super tiny amplifier off. The rear speakers were a day long project, here are some pics of the alterations I had to make to get it working.

It required a hacksaw and razor blade for me, removal of the metal tray, taking a 2-3" piece out of the top (closest to the window) and also a lot of trimming of the plastic surround. You also need to remove almost the entire rear interior.

Actually, thanks a lot dude! I have an extra pair of 6.5s and was about to order some of the adapters for the rear since I already did the fronts, but I was unsure of how much work was involved. Your pics cleared up the doubts. Posts with pics and explanations are a lot more useful than random comments/flamming/bs

I know its probably necro-posting, but no one on these forums actually showed pics of what needed to be done, so figured I'd help some brothers out.

But for anyone else that doesn't want the help, just pull a Johnny Storm and-flame ON!
