OK guys, Im at a breaking points, my KA is 160hp and 160bl/ft, nothing to sniff at...but I got an odd intermittent heating problem, and its probably a small hole in the head gasket.

thusly, if I do a head gasket I may as well:valve springs from ka24de.com- 350(estimate)cams from JWT- 700Head gasket-90 manifold gaskets+timing chain kit- 500

installation(because I am lazy, and dont have tools)between 500 to 1300 dollars, depnding on head work, etc.

thats lie, uhm 3k roughly.

OR

SR20 blacktop 1/2 cut2800 dollarsinstallation-500 to 1300 dollarsand nay parts I want to addprobably another 1200(maybe more)

yes its more..but it'd probably make far more HP and make cool noises.

so..what does NICO think?!?!

lemme know!-chet

edit: donation welcome via paypal! paypal adress: [email protected]

every penny counts!SR20 or mod the KA even more?!?!

S15 Blacktop with 6speed? = $10k total

nah really, I was going to suggest a turbo ka but since you dont want to work on it yourself, I think you should sell your KA stuff and do the SR S13 blacktop. It will be more of a headache than just cames and you will spend more money than you think, but more fun and higherpower than NA KA will get you.

if your KA is going out on you, go SR... otherwise build up that KA! :)

Hmmm, I agree with LTJJ, since you dont wan't to do the work yourself I wouldn't recommend a turbo KA setup. I'd go with the SR but be prepared to have to "freshen" it up as well a bit.

Personally I would go with the blacktop just from the hp aspect. Great motor that is well built, does great for daily driving, and can handle quite a bit of power.

what about jsut gettin a newer ka? $500-KA $500-Install put together a custom non intercooled kit for $2500 and beat the hell out of sr's. plus if u break sumthin u can get parts easy. and u'll have the spare parts off ur stock engine

My ka bit the big one too. It decided it could hold more antifreeze if it stored it in the oilpan.

Blacktop Sr20 sitting in my car now. Never looked back. Even with all the trouble i've gone through.

Chet, you know what to do.. put that turbo hog in there, up the boost, and blast some ill stuntage. Cost of replacement tires shouldn't be much of an issue for you, so I guess you're all out of excuses!!! Now turn off your comp and go find an engine already!

^^new guys take note of that last bit

Yeah, I voted KA, but didn't read. If you arent wanting a turbo KA then by all means go with the SR. Maybe a CA? eh eh?

Im with structure- find some cheepass KA and build the snot out of it, followd by turbo, then you get the cool noises the SR makes.

Yeah, Im thinking of having an install party once I get all the parts lined up, etc. Thanks for all the input guys. I considered a CA swap, but the lack of torque and easily attained mods makes me shy away. I think im going with the SR, blacktop with:-greddy turbo extention-blitz downpipe-apex-i intake kit-avc-r-electric fans(I already got that w00t.)-walbro 255lph pump(got it!)-Z32 fuel filter(got that too!)-s-afc(got it!)-NISMO transmission mount(got it)-Kazama poly/solid engine mounts(on order)

hehe. woute. stock SMIC and stuff for now, until I get more moneys....

imma be in debt for a while, but at least I'll be fast. stick around, I'll be selling my KA parts(pulley, flyhweel, header, intake, etc)-chetthanks guys!smith: tires are almost worn out, imma slap some s-03's on soon.

once you get ready to sell some of those parts definatley contact me! im interested in the ss pulleys also. i voted KA with out reading cuz turboing the KA really isnt as hard as it seems and there is A LOT of info and help about it in the KA-T section. i like the powerband of the KA along with the torque.

I say go KA-T, doesnt sound like you are gonna have a shop work on it if you are hosting an install party.

All that money is a waste on the SR, youll get maybe..190-200whp, assuming stock boost cuz of the SMIC. Dont be drawn in by the stock turbo noises, JDM "titeness" and supposed ease of install.

You totally dont need those parts you listed for the KA (valve springs, cams), just either get a newer KA or change your head gasket (and timing setup if you need it) in your current one and use the rest of the money to go turbo. With the money you would end up spending on the SR (4-5K) you would have a KICKING KA-T, somewhere between 250-300whp.

yeah Im still a bit conflicted. I may buy a spare KA head and get the custom work done I want, then swap ita ll over....

*shrug* so many choices. Either way, I may be havin a small party at my house to isntall ti all, then up to balanced performance for the dyno tuning :)

w00. john, dont make fun! gimme money!

if I ever decide to do a little 240 gathering it'll be at my friend 3 story house, its got a huge parking lot(its a rental house) so we can fit maybe 20 cars there.

thanks for all the input guys.-chet
