Long story short>> I need to get my check engine light to go away so I can pass my emissions test and stop shoveling money over to my garage.

The P0140 code keeps coming up. I bought the car app. 2 years ago with 150k miles.

At that time, I replaced the front cat (the large vertical one) and the O2 sensor (the bank 1, second sensor I believe). The light stayed off for a while but then came back on with the same P0140 code. I've been driving it for a while now, but I finally need to deal with this to get through emissions.

My buddy said to try a OEM O2 sensor as I used a Bosch type. But any ideas? The garage I'm working with is useless.

It's a 2000 Maxima, and the label under the hood says meets CA emissions requirements.

Garage just called.. now they're saying the two downstream O2's are bad. On Saturday they told me they were good. I'm getting the car outta there.

Any thoughts before I order two new Nissan OEM O2 sensors???

Get your car out of that garage ASAP as they don't know your car. They replaced the wrong components.

The VQ engine has 2 banks - Bank 1 towards the firewall and Bank 2 towards the radiator. Your car has 3 catalytic converters - Bank 2 (for cylinder 2-4-6) Pre-Cat mounted vertically in front of the engine; Bank 1 (for cylinder 1-3-5) Pre-Cat mounted under the engine and the Main Cat towards the rear. Each bank has 2 oxygen sensors. The 2000 Maxima complies with both the Federal and California Emission standards.

DTD 0140 is specific to Bank 1 Rear O2 Sensor (HO2S2-B1) High Voltage (DCD 0160 for for Bank 2). The Bank 1 Rear O2 sensor is mounted in front of the Bank 1 Pre-Cat (horizontal), using a WHITE harness (original), @ 38" long with a 4-wire connector near the radiator. You ONLY need to replace this sensor. I don't know why they replaced the Bank 2 Pre-Cat and sensors. For best pricing on OEM and quality O2 sensor, go to NGK.com or sparkplugs.com.

For additional information, refer to the link below. There is an emission diagram there and my posting is at the end.
