not necessarily...i had a really dead optima that when hooked up would only give me 11volts after a jump.it would sustain that but not improve,even after driving around for an hour.leaving it unhooked sitting in the car it would completely drain overnight. i put a 30$ autozone battery in there and i get 14volts all day long.moral of the story...don't let your optima go dead,or don't buy one to start with they don't take well to recharging.89240sx wrote:or try hooking a volt meter up to the battery when it's running if you are not reading 13-14 volts it's your alternator
