Need your help guys....
97 J30, 170K on the odometer
normal upkeep done
filled up the tank last week with normal hi test, tank now 3\4 mark
car stalled out on freeway last week, but started up immediately.
no CEL, no idiot lights...just lost idle
car would then idle at very low idle when coming to stop lights, etc...
then it would just lose the idle when slowing down.....
changed MAF on Friday, thought I had it...
then happened again yesterday on freeway and streets, but would start up after a minute or two.
Seems when it hits operation temp, it starts to fade...when it shuts off, no engine lights, just a click and the engine dies.
Again starts after a few minutes....engine dies when I shift from park into gear....have to rev it up to get it into gear...

Replaced fuel pump this am...drove around block for about five to ten minutes, then it died again. Died when I pulled over to curb to see if it would idle when stopped....heard a click then engine died....waiting for it to start up again....

any ideas?

Yes, was getting off freeway, thus was slowing down...lost idle...was not fun going around turn with no power...

If you were to restart the car with your foot acting as idle does it run fine otherwise?

Can you hear the fuel pump prime?

When it stalled out on the highway, after the car shutoff, we're you able to start it immediately or within a reasonable time?

Next you have to determine what ingredient is missing , spark or fuel

Unbolt a coil, hold the spark plug end close to raw metal or better yet have a grounded cheapie bulb type of test light as a probe then have a assistant crank the engine, if you have spark get some starting fluid and try that.

hey i agree with with J30ChumpCar.. start with starting fluid , if it starts .. troubleshoot the fuel system ..fuse to relay to control module to pump.. EF-EC pg 148 on the FSM .. well for the 93 j30 manual

Ok, problem solved....what a week!
Car stalled, heard a click..and the car was totally dead electrically....no dash lights, no window movements, nothing....
Got it towed to my mechanic.....I was definitely over my head...I replaced IACV and fuel pump with no avail...

Mechanic is a Datsun Z mechanic who knows the Infiniti series well....
he took awhile to get to it, but here was his diagnosis....

When I first got the car, which is a 97 in calendar year 99, I installed a Clifford auto immobilizer which deadens the car....it has a little light that flashes, then you put a separate key into it, energizes the car, light stops flashing and the car starts....
well, the autoimmobilizer died!
no flashing light, nada!
after checking all the fuses, relays, etc, the mechanic figured the autoimmobilizer had electrically died...he disconnected its wiring under the dash...and the car started and has been running ever since!
