well we tried starting it up today, and we reconnected the ECU. for some reason the car wont start, the battery is fully charged, we believe its receiving spark. we have no idea, only thing i can think of is possibly a wire is messed up. i also as you all know replaced the dash but i doubt that would have any effect on it no wires were touched. thanks for any info guys

doesnt even make a crank, you hear the fuel pump, but nothing else. cant figure out what the hell is wrong with it. pops thinks it has something to do with the ecu. last time it was started was about a month ago.

sorry to nitpick... but a couple follow up questions:Do the electronics in the car work? Radio, lights, etc? I'm assuming yes because there is power for the fuel pump, but not the starter.

Clearly what's not happening is the starter is not cranking. Get underneath the car and look at the starter.. make sure that a wire didn't disconnect or something. Also.. check fuses to make sure you don't have a blown fuse in the engine bay... perhaps the starter is on a current that has a blown fuse?Sounds like a problem with the starter or the wiring to the starter no giving it power. Your dad could be correct as well.. .ECU might have fried the starter signal somehow.. but I think that's a long shot.

Is the car in park? Not to insult your intellegence... but I've seen it happen before... lol.

yes the radio went right on, loud and everything, i believe everything else is in working order. i'll try the starter tomorrow. as for the ecu we kept it out because the car was leaking and we didnt want any moisture touching it. but as pops said he thinks it has something to do with that, i will check the starter and fuses tomorrow.

if the car isn't startingit you can narrow it down like this,

First, check to see if the starters good, when the car is on a lift, you can ground the starter wires together to see if the starters getting power/is good.

If the starter cranks, and the engine starts up, you are getting power to the starter, and should look under the steering wheel in the dash, and check the wiring down there prolly that, if all the wiring is good there, then you're ecu is left to cause, also make sure the ecu is plugged in all the way, it may seem it is, but sometimes it needs to go in a little more

Alright, now my 2 cents If you just had the ecu out and now it won't start, I'd say that's the place to start your troubleshooting. In Fact I had a similar thing happen semi recently. I'd hasd my ecu out to check and clear an error code. After I put it back I was test driving when all of a sudden the car stopped and woukldn't start up again. No cranking but astereo etc. worked. I jiggled the ecu a bit and it started right up. So I'd say check your ecu harness thoroughly. That's where my money lies. Good luck.

alright for some reason we arent getting spark now, could the ecu be the cause of this? the starter sparked when we touched it with a wire, and everything else seems to be good. so we arent sure as to why this mofo wont start still. the wiring under the steering wheel seems all there nothing messed up. hmm im still puzzled. im gonna go check the ecu again

well we tried, its now about 4:30 in the afternoon we started about 2 or so the weather is now crappy once again. so we had to stop. we are still puzzled as to what the problem can be. we noticed we arent getting spark now. as for the starter we touched it with a wire and it gave us a spark, so we are clueless to this. would anybody else have any other ideas as to what this problem could be?

Does anyone else in your area have an ECU that you could swap in to test?

Must be a wiring issue somewhere... either the ECU is shorting somewhere, or you've got a bad ground wire, or one or more blown fuses...

Is that battery ground wire properly connected to the block and the chassis?

If it's been sitting for a while... perhaps a mouse chewed on some wires or something??
