Well, I have a 89 240sx hatchback with 150K on the motor. Just bought it 3 weeks ago. All stock. I just changed the belts on it last weekend, but besides that I haven't touched anything.

It ran fine up until yesterday when I was driving home from work when suddenly the radio faded out, then faded back in. So I thought, speakers must be going bad. Then 5 minutes later, the radio died. A couple of minutes later I notice that the motor was hesitating when I accelerated. So I started pulling off to the side of the road and exited the highway. The motor started to choke a bit so I let off the gas. I came to a stop at the stop sign, and suddenly the engine died. I pushed the car off the road and sat in the cockpit watching all the electronics grow weaker and weaker.

Tried to crank the engine, but got nothing. No click no nothing. I replaced the battery hoping that might be it, but still nothing. Car feels truly dead. Towed it back home, but I'm not sure where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks in advance.

it could be an alternator problem, did you get the alternator belt back on and tightened to spec?

i agree with him. You could try charging the battery up and if it goes out again or goes out when you restart the car most definitely an alternator.

Found one fuse link that was broken. Dealer told me it would take a few days to get a replacement so looks like I'm stuck for a bit. I hope the alternator is OK. Thanks guys.

see if you got a draw on the system before you put in a new link, so you dont blow it. do you have or know how to use an amp meter, inductive would be best. dont use a typical volt meter 15amp scale cause you'll just blow the fuse in it. your draw would be more along the lines of 35 amps or higher.
