Well let me start off with a little background infoI have a 1995 240sx se ( production in late 94)I live in SoCal.I have approx 108,000 milesOnly engine mod is a AEM Short RamI do have a Sony head unit with 2 fosgate amps to power my speakers and my sub.I have also lowered my car.

Well, it first started when i was driving on the highway. I was approximately 6 miles away from my house when all of a sudded, my car looses power ( basically you can feel the car hesitating and then it goes to no power) and the RPM start shooting up and down. The RPM's shot around from 1.5k to about 4.5k then after a few seconds ( no more than 3 seconds) the car shuts off. All electronics work, lights work, cd player works. The spedo, temp, gas gauge working normally. The Check Engine Light does not turn on. So i just pop the clutch in and out and the car starts again. And about 20 seconds later, the same thing happens again. So i exit and pull off and wonder WTF??? I disconnected the negative cable from my battery and waited a bit and reconnected it. Everything works fine and i go back home.

Today i go out to drive my car and get about 12 miles away from home. And here we go again, same thing. Except only this time the check engine light comes on. and the car wont start back up quickly unless i wait a while. So i had the car towed home.

Any ideas what might be the problem?? Any help would be greatly appriciated because im a broke student. Thanks in advance.

Dave

Oh and i did use the search function because i know how annoying it can get when ppl ask the same questions over and over. But i havent found anything similar to my problem.

Sounds like an electrical unit is getting hot and shutting down. Pull the codes and see what you got stored. I am thinking primary ignition code.

Thanks for the idea. Ill go ahead and try to pull out the code today if i have time. BTW, it has to be in mode II for me to get the code, right?

Thanks again for your help!

depends on what procedure your following. When I use the nissan tool its mode 3. But some of these online code pulling procedures have it listed as mode 2
