K so i was driving on the highway the other day going 100kms, then all of a sudden my 5th gear fell apart or something. 5th doesn't work, its as if it's in neutral. and now it makes a bunch of rattling noises and what not inside. so i assume its fallen apart. so now its jacked up and im about to take out the transmission tonight.

here are my options, get it rebuilt? buy an new transmission?

i was also told i can put on an SR transmission by swapping the bell housings? does this also work for a KA?

and one more thing, if i do end up getting an SR transmission, will my CA clutch still be compatible.

thanks.

I cant help you cuz ive never heard of someone using the SR transmission, im not sure how different they are.

But post this same topic in the CA18DET forum and maybe one of the CADET vets can help you out.

an SR gearset will bolt up to a KA bellhousing and work fine.

KA gearsets also bolt up to SR bellhousings. It's how so many ppl get away with cheap 5spd trannies for their SR's!

If you know for a fact that the SR gearset will work perfectly fine in your CA bellhousing, then by all means expand your search to the KA gearsets. The gearing is extremely minimal in difference of ratios between the KA and SR gearsets. I haven't looked up the specs but maybe they're even identical.

Good luck!
