Am I missing something here guys? Is this the way it's done?

My car has 3x2 bolt pattern axles, the VLSD I bought has 5-star pattern. I need to pull out the stub axles from the diff and replace them with 3x2 ones, correct?

Why couldn't I just take my OEM stub axles and put them in the VLSD?

HELP!!!!

You are correct. The stock stub axels are not long enough to get into the VSLD. When I bought new ones for the 350z they were only like 110 bucks.

You can get stub axles from a 240sx with vlsd.

Or you can get 5-bolt j30 axles.

Anyway, the oem output shafts from an open differential won't work because one of them is too long. I haven't looked into whether they can be machined or not to make them work, but you can get output shafts that do work by going to the dealership and asking them for output shafts from a vlsd 240sx.

Actually OE axels for are 2 short on one side to engage the VSLD unit. What you need are the stuc axels for a VSLD 240sx to do the job right. Let me see if I have any left in the shop.

hey TTR, if you have more than enough for Greg, let me know. I've been needing 6 bolt output shafts for my VLSD for a while.

The guy who got my spare VLSD tried what you guys are talking about with no luck.

the 3x2 240sx stubs did not fit to the VLSD housing

the VLSD 5 bolt, you can use 93 J30 shafts or 180sx shafts. There is a local shop that gave up an entire rear 180sx subframe with VLSD and shafts and brakes for $50 so deals are out there.

Front end wreck early J30 at a recycle yard is what i'd hunt for. Remanufactured shafts are another avenue, but I couldn't find any on the west coast and bought new J30 shafts as spares. Greg if you can get wholesale pricing then that'd be one hell of a way to go.

I'm keeping my eyes open for another smokin deal on 180sx parts, so if I see another subframe for $50 I'll let Greg know asap

Phil - I was under the impression it was the later model J30 VLSD stubs...

Damn, this is turning into more trouble than it's likely worth.
