If you are running pretty decent, but hitting the fuel cut at about 2,500rpm that is a sign that the ecu doesn't see the maf. Check for power at the maf and check it's output. The check for continuity between the maf and the ecu. While you are at it, pull the codes from the ecu.

if the cas is bad the car won't start. Pretty much the only reason the car will run great but not rev over 2500rpms is if the ecu thinks the maf is bad. Did you ever pull the codes? Did you check for continuity in the maf wiring? Did you check the output voltage of the maf? If you want more help you are going to have to pull the codes and give us some more information.

btw, if the maf is bad you will get bad fuel economy and usually run pretty rich.
