I had the opportunity to replace the fuel pump & a fuel injector this past week on my '90 Q. Everything seemed to work well initially. I believe the problem is with the injector replacement. After replacing the pump I drove to the parts store (about 3-4 miles) and had no problems with the car shutting off as it had previously done. After replacing the injector & starting the car ran well minus the rough idle prior to replacement. The check engine light disappeared & everything seemed fine.
Upon driving it started out fine with no shudder with acceleration. However, coming to a stop presented a new issue. The car would seem as if it were downshifting hard & the rpm's would shoot up to around 2500. It did this a couple times & then shut off. It did start back up but continued to do the rpm rise when coming to a stop. I did notice if I put the car in neutral when slowing that I didn't have this problem. I'm kinda stomped as to what could be the problem now. I'll be taking it to the mechanic hopefully Wednesday to have that checked out. I'm looking for suggestions/advice on my situation.
p.s.Yes I did relieve the pressure when replacing the pump & injector separately. Some additional pressure seemed to be released when I removed the old injector. Also, there didn't appear to be any excessive amount of fuel in the rails when I removed the old injector. BTW, I don't remember the injector number but it is the one closest to the firewall on the passenger side.
