Its been problem after problem, I surprised for a 97Q which has a good record that all this is happening. Newest problem:

Q failed the automatic A/T check. When I perform the check, the O/D light does not flicker. I tried the same procedure on a 97 maxima, and it works fine!! The computer never enters the AT check mode. For what I understand, either the AT unit is screwed or the throttle position is not working.

1. What would be indicative of a failed throttle position sensor

and

2. what would be indicative of a failed AT unit.

Any thoughts would be nice.

What codes does the OBD2 scanner [autozone or your personal unit]display?

I did not use a generic scanner tool, or taken it to autozone yet. I used the autocheck feature for the transmission as listed in the FSM under AT section - using the shifter and the O/D off button.

I think the TPS is not sending a WOT signal to the AT ECU which trips it into diagonistic mode.

Nothing happens after I run the procedure - whereas the maxima (97) trips into the correct mode and gives feedback using the O/D light.

Ever car owner should have a personal OBD2 scanner so cheap [$200] and so useful along with the PDF version of the FSM.
