Hey guys, I have a 1990 Nissan Sentra with a 1.6 that has been in my family since new. 145,000 miles and still going strong. It is time for some maintenance though. I am getting ready to change the oil pan gasket and left CV joint. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what do you need help with?

the pan is pretty easy to do once you drop the header pipe. An on that car I suggest you go with a whole new axel not just the joint. it is a simple pop out proceedure once you unbolt it from the spindle and undo the spindle from the strut.

Reread, it is a Sentra. Oh, I got the pan gasket changed today. Didn't seem to fix the leak. Any other ideas?

can you isolate where around the perimimeter of the pan the oil is running down?

Passenger side of the pan. I am thinking a possible crank pulley seal.

Ok you are saying near the belts I assume. I typically reffer to an engine as the pulley side being the front of the engine and the tranny side being the rear of the engine.

You are correct in assuming it could be the crank seal[easily relaced] but there is one other spot there prone to leak and thats the front cover orings. To see if the oring is the problem look up from under the car on the oil filter side of the engine where the front cover mates with the block about 4 inches up from the oil pan. see if there is a clean streak of oil running down from near a front cover bolt in that area. If so you need to reseal the front cover and replace the oring and the crank seal. To tell if its the crank seal just look up under the crank puley and see if the cover is heavily covered in black grime but right in the middle at the bottom there is a oddly clean strip coming from the center of the crank seal. this would indicate the fresh oil is running out and cleaning that area. That would be a crank seal leak.

Thanks once again. Do any of you happen to have the part number for the crank seal and the o rings? I am guessing that you mean the timing cover when you say front cover?

ok, number 14 is the crank seal and number 15 is the timing cover. Where are these o rings located?
