Help 94 VG30G valve cover colors

Hello, I picked up a 94 maxima motor VG30E and the is the first one I have seen with BLACK valve covers. Did they make them with black valve covers. Or is it from another nissan car?

Some were black (certain Z31s if I'm not mistaken).

And it also has round tooth sprockets for timing belt. I have only seen square tooth on maxima. But I looked up a timing for the 94 you can get a round tooth belt for it. So maybe that's why the valve covers are black. Thanks.

That is interesting. I've only seen smooth red valve covers in the Maxima's with the square teeth. Z31's that I've seen always have a rough textured red valve cover (as well as 2nd gen Maxima's). I think the later trucks with the VG33 had black covers and early trucks with the VG30 with more of a gold color. Not sure about the van VG30's. I've not got to mess with the later Maxima's so it definitely could be possible, I just never heard of that.

Oh, THAT'S what it was. The trucks. I think my grandpa's 2nd gen Pathy has black valve covers. That's where I've seen it.

Later Maximas are still red.
