A friend of mine was looking at my MAF harness, touched 2 of the connectors together on the harness, heard a pop and now my car will not start. Any suggestions as to what went wrong?? What do I need to do to fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

First, ties his hands behind his back.

Next, check your ECU. Dollars to donuts it's fried. Might check with Wes to see if the upgrade will fix it.

How do I check the ECU to see if it's fried? How easy is it to put install a new or used one? Thanks

ECU is located behind the kick panel on the passenger side floor.

I would start with the ecu too. Like Jesda said, just go to the pasenger side and pull off the kick panel ( 2 clips and one 10mm nut ). There is a way to put the ECU into diagnostic mode and so forth. You have to have a service manual to go forward. Your car should have one from the factory (thanks Infiniti) in the trunk by the spare tire.

If not, go to http://www.phatg20.net/modules...id=62

Now look to page 169, (or page 51 within the Engine Control and Emissions section) and that will help you put the ECU into diagnostic mode.

You said you heard a "pop". I strongly suggest checking every single fuse in the car. It might just be a $2 fuse and your back on the road!!

I did the diagnostic test with the ECU and nothing came up as a malfunction. I also checked all of the fuses and their all fine. Are there any other fuses on the motor somewhere that I'm not seeing?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated....

Quick question: is it possible to fry part of the ECU, and still have the rest function? I'm getting no power through the wiring harness to the MAF

Read through this two page post by Amybirds who had the exact problem as you. I think the end result is that the ECU is fried. Hope this helps.

Goody, thanks for the link and info! I replaced the ECU today, and she's running like a champ once again...Just for future reference, ANYTIME you work on your MAF, disconnect the battery beforehand and you'll save yourself the stress and B.S. I went through. Thanks everyone for all of your help!

Oops. You're right. I'll take credit for presenting the compelling evidence.
