Post

hello everyone,I recently purchased a 93 240sx a bit ago and now I am having trouble with the engine running rough. I absolutely love this car ( far more room than my MX-5 and Del Sol ever dreamed of having) but I am sort of at a loss about why its running so badly. I replaced the wires, plugs, fuel filter, dist cap and rotor ( the previous owners had never replaced the cap and rotor in 16 years, wow). A mechanic friend said it may be a faulty distributor but could it possibly be something else? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated

More info on how its is running would help.

There are a ton of things it could be.

Fuel filter, Fuel Regulator, bad injector(s), fuel pump, timing, distributor, MAF, etc, etc, etc

Could be bad injectors. They go bad a lot on KA motor. Could be MAF too. Find another 240 in good running condition, swap out the MAFs and see.

I cleaned the MAF sensor about two weeks ago when it was running ok. It would however run fine for a while then after i shut it off and would restart, it would start running rough then it would even out and everything would be ok. This last time however it didnt even out and keeps rough. I pulled the wire from the first cylinder and when i did the engine would not run rougher which is what I expected, so it leads me to think I may have a either a bad injector or possibly the wire is firing weak. I can say though, the whole car shakes and has a horrible vibration.

#1 injector is bad. It's a very common problem. Bad injector usually stops working when engine is hot.

Biggie and 94_240sx hit the nail on the head! It is bad injectors! I had the same problem with my 240 vert not to long ago. The whole car was shaking and idling really rough. One of my injectors was damaged and needed to be replaced. If you don't know how to replace an injector I would find a local repair shop.

Well today I got my 240sx fixed and sure enough it was the 1st injector. a pin inside of the injector was sticking causing it not to work poperly. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Mine started acting up a few months ago but only happened on long trips. While driving to the store the other day it really started running rough. And yesterday when I drove to and from work it was really idling and running rough...so looks like I need to see if it's my injectors, which I'm pretty sure it is. Think I'm just gonna replace all my injectors...going to get them from deatschwerks.com, can't beat the price. Again, glad to hear you got your problem fixed...wish me luck!

If your car starting to shake and one of the cylinders is not firing, most likely is a bad injector.
