I put a new set of pads on the other day. I went out for a test drive and within about 5 minutes of normal driving the fronts were sticking badly causing teh car to lug considerably and having to work the engine hard to overcome the drag from the fronts. Limped home and the front brakes were hot. I looked over everything and all looks good and straight - I matched the config of the pads to the way they the previous ones were installed and they also match the book illustrations. I since bled them completely.
Basically after pressing them a few times in real use and warming them up - they start sticking and slowing the car considerably - all I can do at that point is park it and once cool they are OK again for a few minutes. When warmed and up in the air w/ wheels removed I can barely turn them w/ a prybar. But once cool the hubs seem to spin easily by hand and everythign appears normal and OK.
I'm going to go ahead and buy a new set of front rotors - the old ones may be 'slightly' warped.
What might I have done (or not done) to have caused the calipres to start binding badly after installing the new pads?
What can I do to remedy it?
Am I looking at overhauling the calipers themselves or replacing them altogether? I had to press the piston in to expand them for the new calipres - could I have pushed them too far?
thanks for any help
