hi, i have a 93 240sx non abs

i just recently did a 5 lug conversion on the car, i installed the rear brakes and everything. i got it on the ground, and once i try backing up there is this sound, almost like grinding, but not sure if it is, but just like gears trying to catch but just bearly. i don't have lsd, its open. it also happens when i go forward. so i jacked up the car to seee whats wrong, i put it gear and gased, no sound!, but then if i put up the e-brake, it makes the same sound, anyone have any ideas, please help me!!!

Is your backing plate rubbing the rotor?

?????

Yea you would want to bend it away from the rotor so it wont rub.

Did you do anything to the diff at all for the 5 lug conversion?

not at all!, just banged out the axles and put them back in, it seems like only when there is pressure on the wheels, then it makes the sound, i jack it up in the air and gas it in first gear no prob, but once i put up the e-brake, it makes the sound, then i put it back on the ground, and i gas to to go , it makes the sound around likr 25000-30000 and on rpms.it happens going forwward and backward? any ideathanks

probably your wheel bearings. are the 5 lug hubs you got new or used?

Did you put on new rotors or did you just redrill your stock rotors? When I did my 5 lug conversion I had the same problem when I tried to move the car it made a grinding noise. After looking I found that my new rotors had a lip on the inside and this was rubbing.

yeah i got new rotors , they aren't redrilled, they are actually from a s14. the well spins freely when i jack it up and spin it. if i pull the brake and gases it will make the grinding sound. and when i put it back down on the ground it grinds no matter what, e-brake or no ebrake. ? got any suggestions.

bearings can be pressed off and new ones pressed on.

But you're positive it's coming from the diff or is it coming from around where the wheel is? If it's from the wheel area, I'm certain it's the hub bearing. If it's from the diff, you've got other bearings in there that need to be replaced, but dunno, I'm fairly certain it's not the one in the diff since you said it only happens when the wheel touches the ground.

yeah the sound only happens when the wheel touches the ground, but when its up on jack stands, it only happens when i pull the e-brake, but i am pretty sure that the noise is coming from the diff
