Car: 89 240sx SR20DET Red Top 5-Speed

So i bought a SR swap and ended up being 3 boxes of parts and a half together motor missing parts. It took me about a month to get it together then i left for the army, came back and finished up the car and got it running in late july 2010. I put in a Walbro 255 that came out of a talon that was torn apart, i was tight for money before the army so i got it for 30 used and it worked perfectly fine untill january 25th 2011. i drove the car home from work 25 miles and was at the pizza place like 2 miles from my house. car ran on the turbo timer fine shut off, started up then idled for about 5 sec then shut off and ended up the pump was fried after i got it home and pulled it out that was it. So i bought a "NEW" Walbro 255 and installed it. Drove it maybe 75 miles ( if that) and the wiring harness got a frayed wire and about a mile from my house it fried about 7 wires above the driver front wheel and the car shut off. towed it home again!! redid all the wires and took it to my neighbors house it started up fine, drove it back to my house and to work and back boosted a few times it broke up twice like i jumped on/off the throttle then nothing the rest of the day, driving to work today i pulled into the parking lot and it died, fuel pump fuse was blown and replaced that and its still not working. towed the car home yet again. I was told there is a relay or resistor that i should have put inline with the power wire for the fuel pump yet i cant find anything on it. Does anyone know what could be killing my fuel pumps? Its my daily untill my taxes come in and i can register my truck so i need this going asap

First DEFINITELY check for shorted wires, as this seems to be evident from your statements here. Then check/replace your 'relay' ... go here, http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/240sx/1989/1989.pdf and refer to page 235. Hope this gets you started!

I was thinking, when my wiring harness got shorted out above the driver wheel the fuel pump shut off also could that have fried the pump to the point just before breaking? because once i fixed all the wires the pump then turned back on. i dont wanna put another pump in and burn it up. If i re ran all new wires from the relay to the fuel pump then i should be set on that and not have any problems correct? i hate wiring lol i have my battery in the trunk so if i ran the power wire thru a fuse and put a relay in then i will get correct voltage to the pump at all times in theory. and use the factory relay to turn on the new relay installed and then turns on the fuel pump? these cars have so many good things about them but i heard alot of wiring problems come up. i have owned it for a year and this was my first nissan swap i went from bone stock KA24E to a semi buildt sr20det lol

You should wire it directly for sure. Then you should make sure your FPR is set correctly/working. I went through 4 pumps in a year and the only thing I found that might have caused that problem is a bad FPR putting too much stress on the autozone pumps I was buying.

Shouldn't be too hard. If you're in a pinch just wire it without a relay. You need ignition power and a ground.

No it seems fine in there. I am gonna run a new set of wires from the relay to the fuel pump. im gonna go with a thicker wire for the power and ground and put a inline fuse on the power side just before the pump connector. if that doesnt solve my problem idk what will maybe selling the car or burning it and let insurance pay for it haha. its just a pain in the a** and i am just scared of it burning up the pump. Is there a way to run a new ground from the pump up thru the tank cover to the plug? the tank cover is all rusted and the ground looks like it will break soon enough can i drill a hole and run a wire thru it and fill it with something? or what, any ideas? Would I wanna run a direct ground from the pump to the chasis or back into the harness?

In the buick realm we just "hotwire" our pumps to the back of the alt with a 10ga. and use a relay to trigger it on. Also there was a bad batch of walbros going around a couple of years ago. Do a google search and you should be able to find the part numbers.

yeah i am gonna be pissed if i have one of them because they told me today when i went to the store where i got it (they called there walbro distributor) that he said there pumps do go bad that its never a problem with there pumps. and i need to ship my pump to them they cut it in half and disect it then if nothing is wrong i gotta pay them 40 bucks. if not i payed for shipping and they will send me a new pump for free. that makes me not wanna buy there stuff but its so good( usually) that i cant go wrong. maybe next build im gonna go with a aeromotive pump. im gonna run new wires form the relay to the pump and put a fuse jsut before the pump and i should be set. im gonna run a bigger wire so it gets full voltage. next i just gotta set up a nice ground, im gonna run a 12ga. or bigger so i know thats good to go. big grounds FTW
