HELP!-2008 Infiniti EX35-melting/sticky and cracking dashboard

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello,

I am looking for some help/direction. I have a 2008 EX35 (South Florida).I am the original owner. My dashboard is melting and all sticky. The front of the dash around the vents are all cracking. I know this is a known issue with Nissan and I know there is a class action lawsuit for Nissan Altima's for 2003-2008 models. The Class Action lawsuit was instituted in the state of Florida ( I have a copy of the filing if needed by anybody). I've even contacted the lead attorney ( http://www.girardgibbs.com/ ) who told me although they tried to include the Infiniti in the suit, so far the court has rejected Infiniti it's under the same Nissan corporation. Nissan has fixed or paid for some of the repairs for the Altima's. I took my car to the dealer (Infiniti in Cococonut Creek, Florida-Broward County, South Florida), they took pictures and sent to corporate good will dept.I tried to get to the service manager but he was conveniently not available. I asked for some confirmation paperwork, but he said it wasn't needed and he would call me back in 1 week. He did call me back and told my repair request was denied. He just told me to call the Infiniti Consumer Affairs (1-800-662-6200 Ext.7) if I wasn't happy with the decision. I did in fact do that and they told me they had an extended 8 year warranty for this known defect but it only was for the FX35 models, and that they wouldn't repair or pay for any part of my damages. They gave me a complaint/reference number which means nothing. I also have contachted the NHTSA-1-888327-4236 (http://www.SaferCar.gov ) and have compensed starting a complaint with them. The local news also had a segment on this issue( http://www.wptv.com/money/consumer/the- ... e-recalled). I contacted them for help, but didn't get much help. Does ANYBODY know any way I can get Infiniti/Nissan USA to repair my car. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. I have several pictures but don't know how to attach to this post as I am new to the site,If anybody has any contacts at Nissan/Infiniti or experienced the same and got any satisfaction I would like to know the details. I can be reached at [email protected]. Thank you”

What does Infiniti say was the cause? I ask because I had the same issue with a Lexus IS300. Lexus denied any responsibility claiming it was due to Armor All or something similar being put on the dash. There are class action suits for this as well.

In any event, I took what Lexus said to my insurance company and filed a comprehensive claim for the damage, as I couldn’t be sure something wasn’t put on by the previous owner or at a car wash. They paid for a new dash ($2,500) and I paid my $50 deductible.

Just food for thought – good luck!

The Nissan/Infiniti issue is a product defect which they are trying not to take ownership of on thousands of cars, however they have lost a class action law suit in Kansas (http://www.kansascity.com/news/business ... efect.html), and one is pending in Florida,(http://www.girardgibbs.com/nissan-melti ... d-lawsuit/) . I have been very persistent and making progress on getting my car fixed. I will keep everyone on this board updated on my results.

Thanks

All of that material is still soft and pliable on my 2008, though it is black. I have used Amorall wipes from time to time and have window tints (though not in the front windshield), and able to use a garage most of the time. I know South Florida is hot, but did you ever apply anything to the dash? A cleaner perhaps? The stickiness is a tip off that something may have attacked the material.

No, I only used a damp cloth over the years. It's a product defect and hopefully they will stand behind their product and replace it even though I'm out of warranty. Many with the FX models have gotten it replaced, but not the EX model. The Altima owners are fighting with class action law suits.

Hello to all! . GOOD NEWS! After being VERY persistent and being denied by the dealer service department, dealer service manager; and Nissan/Infiniti Corporate with a case#. I contacted the GM at the my local dealer who finally helped me and got me a new complete dash. The cost was $2,045, and at first they said I was only responsible for $45.00 of the cost. I thought that was so odd, but I said OK. However, they finally waived that too. So I guess sometimes “ the squeaky wheel does get the grease”. Sometimes being persistent does pay off. To all other keep pushing and demand satisfaction. Below is a website that I found after much searching of Nissan corporate contacts that somebody spend a lot of time putting together. I tried to e-mail him and thank him, but he didn't reply, and I don't know how current it is. But it might be helpful. Best of luck to all. I would like to hear back from others who has either had success or continued to get denied.

i wonder if it is a humidity issue instead of a heat issue. My black dash still looks like new on my 2008...
And this is in the desert heat... We had 109 days over 100 degrees in 2017, 25 of those days were over 110... No cracks or stickiness...

It’s not humid in so cal. We get intense sun but my wife always uses sun screens. Of course Infiniti will be absolutely no help, just as they were on my jx35

A class action lawsuit on this recently was settled. After reading an article on this, owners might still be able to file a claim:
