Welcome to NICO !

To my knowledge, the sport package has blacked out headlamps and changes the wheel size and the suspension. As with the X models, it will have a different road feel and only slightly less ride quality than the standard M series.

You can watch DVDs in the front NAV screen by using the DVD player hidden in the console but the car MUST be in P with the parking brake ON. (and your car must have whichever package includes this option).

The surround Bose system is part of the advanced tech package I believe. They change the packages and options every year it seems but the surround system was never part of the sport package. Mine has it and it's a huge improvement over the standard Bose system. I should also tell you the surround feature only activates if the music playing thru it has the appropriate information - eg: most standard radio stations will NOT activate it, but most XM stations will. Also CDs you create at home or I-pods will usually activate it as well.

After deciding on Infiniti, I had to search for a while to find exactly what I wanted. The Obsidian Black with bourbon interior and Bose surround were non-negotiable for me. I also wanted the optional rear seat DVD option with reclining heated / cooled rear seats but I wasn't able to find it in an M that had this option along with the colours I wanted. Just keep looking and you will eventually find an M that meets what you need.

I also highly recommend an extended warranty. I bought my 07 M from CarMax with about 65k miles and got their extended warranty - it matches the original Infiniti new car warranty and will cover my car for 6 years or up to 125,000 miles on my car. They offered to add it to the finance for an additional $35 monthly but I bought it outright. It has already paid for a battery with new wiring and a starter - a nearly $800 bill that only cost me $100 co-pay. The warranty is honored at Infiniti dealers and most other places.
The best part about CarMax is you can search outside your state and they will ship it to your local dealer (for a small fee) - and you do not have to buy it once it gets there if you don't want it. Much wider selection than just one or two local Infiniti dealers.
These cars have VERY expensive parts and labour is over $100 hour so you can get OEM parts and you will definitely get your warranty money back.

Larz is right. The Bose speakers in the seats for 2006-2007 were part of the Advanced Technology Package (not to be confused with the normal Technology Package which includes the Navigation System). The DVD players in the M's are confusing because some have overhead DVD players and some don't have any additional screens, but they play through the Nav screen when the car is in park IFF the car has a DVD player in the armrest console (as what Larz said).

Sport model M's for 06-07 do come with blacked out headlamps, some sort of active rear steering, an active front headlamp system, 19" sport wheels, aluminum drilled pedals, and perhaps a couple more items that I may have forgotten about. The easiest way to tell if it's a sport or non-sport M though are by the wheels...the sports come with 19" split 5 star wheels.

So basically you're looking for a Sport with the Advanced Technology Package. The Advanced Tech Package is much harder to find than normal M's, but they are out there.

Btw Larz, you and me again are somewhat alike... I, too, was looking for a Black with Bourbon interior M which was 100% non-negotiable. I recently found one :)

My advice is, Keep looking until you're satisfied!! The easiest way to tell a sport is definitely not by the wheels, many people go after these wheels when they buy the base and even the x model (since the 19"wheel package are still a square set up not Staggered)!!

Keep an eye out for items in the sport package that cannot easily be changed. Like the leather seats will be either stone or black, no other color! The pin stripe on the seats will be a dark Grey (on both stone and black)! Red stitching on the steering wheel AND shift knob I believe! And although the trim pieces can be changed, these will be carbon fiber metallic look not woodgrain! The sport will not have the rear seats that recline but some do come with the drop down TV screen for the rear passengers.

The Advanced Tech package is easily identified by the extra buttons on the steering wheel (Cruise control distance buttons and ldw) also the distance sensor on the bottom of the bumper. The camera facing forward next to the rear view mirror and definitely the surround sound speakers in the seats! This package will have the DVD in the center console which can only be viewed in the front screen while the emergency brake is engaged (an e-brake bypass is available from http://www.strictlygz.com for about $130 plug and play very easy to do)! The nav/bluetooth dvd console in the glove compartment for 06/07 models will not play movies, that is only for map dvd!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU LOOK INTO 08+ MODELS (no Bourbon interior available but the tech upgrades are worth it) :dblthumb:

Not in the rear. To my knowledge that was a completely separate option you got when you opted for the rear seat fold-down DVD screen and I think it was called 'rear entertainment' or some such thing. That option might have also required you to have one of the other packages in conjunction with it.

Completely false. That player is only for loading the navigation DVD. It's firmware will only respond to the data on the nav disks.

yes on the "nav screen" in the front, but for clarification the "dvd hidden in the console" is specifically the one under the arm rest between the seats. You CANNOT watch any dvd on the actual navigation dvd player in the front glove box.

If you get an 06-09 model, you can hack the navigation to allow watching DVDs while in park on the front screen in the center console. However I dont know how to do it on the 08-09 models, I just know it is possible as a couple people have done it.
