Hey Guys,

I have 06 M35 with 165k on it, great car but I have now experienced something and it has happened twice.

On the first occasion, I was driving in a neighborhood and not exceeding the posted limit and she shut off. I coasted to a stop and shut everything off and tried to restart. She finally started but it turned over several times before it started. I parked her for the night and all has been well since then. Today I am driving 45-50 mph and I felt a loss in power, the check engine light came on but the the car never stopped and the power returned and I drove back to my office.

Any ideas on what this might be? You think she knows I a looking at a newer 56???

Thanks

Go have the code read and report back. Otherwise there really isn't much anyone can say for sure. It sounds like maybe a bad crank or cam sensor, fuel pump. Or maybe 20 other things.

^^ agree. Too many systems these days in cars which work together, so it could be everything from a MAF to a tiny crank sensor.

Quite agree with the guys. With 165k on your M, the cam and crank sensors have long seen better days.

Thanks for the responses. It was indeed the Crank Sensor that was toasted and it has been replaced and I am back to smiling again.

What other little things should I be looking at? all the major stuff is up to date but I guess there are things like this that one doesn't know to check

If able, the two cam sensors.

With 155K on my 06 M35, would should I change these (2xCam and Crank sensors) as part of maintenance?

Yes. I'm surprised they lasted that long. You be able to get away with cleaning them (they probably have a lot of tiny metal shavings on the inside once you take it out....

My camshafts sensor lasted to 190K and my crankshaft lasted to 195K.
