My 1998 QX4 (225K) was leaking from a few places.
I replaced the valve cover gaskets and while "in there" I replaced all rubber hoses (crank case ventilators, fuel, and coolant) additionally rebuilt the injectors (new seals - 5 each). I had a hard time resnapping the plug wires in (2, 4, 6).
When finished, she started right up.
There seems to be a bit of a miss, but it is smoking out of the tail pipe like crazy and the service engine light is now on. Could a non-connected plug wire cause this?
:wtf2:
Thanks in adavance

What color is the smoke from the tailpipe? What is code you're getting from the CEL?

The smoke is white and I do not have a diagnostic code reader. I was hoping to try a thing or two before buying one.
Thank you

Update: my neighbor says the smoke is blue.
It seems to be sucking oil into the combustion system.
Possibly from a mis-connected crank case breather hose to the wrong pipe? Can I plug a crank case breather hose and see if that helps. Plugging one, then reconnecting and plugging another. Short of completely removing the intake plenum and starting over with the hoses, any suggestions?
Other than taking it to a shop?
Thank you!

Do yourself a favor and get a code reader. They're cheap. You can get an OBD2 Bluetooth or WiFi adapter that plugs into the port on your car and send the data to software installed on your smartphone. Total cost is less than $30. Otherwise, you're flying blind. It sounds like you're sucking oil into the intake - you could have put your PCV valve in backwards and you don't need to remove the plenum to check that.

Thank you
I'll try that.
Just got back from being with our daughter while she gave birth to our first grandbaby (son).
The car is for her.
