So my transmission blew on my 1996 Nissan Pickup today, and i am having one hell of a time trying to get a parts number off of it. I have no idea how many digits the code is or where to look for it. As previously stated, the truck is a 1996 Nissan Pickup XE 4x4 with the 2.4L 4cyl. Motor, 5 speed manual transmission, floor shift. Any information you could give me would really help, Thanks in advance.

Your trans is identified as a FS5W71G. There should be a tag on your trans, either on top of the bellhousing or on the side of the gearcase that will tell you what model you have. That won't matter much, since you know you need to replace it.

That trans was used in 96-00 4-cyl Nissan trucks... Probably not a terribly bad idea to just buy a rebuilt one, or have yours rebuilt by a reputable trans shop.

A rebuild kit is $50-something (http://www.americanpowertrainwarehouse. ... ild/Detail), and rebuilt transmissions (of that type) range from $900 - $1400 in our area.

EDIT: Here's a decent deal: http://www.smartpartsauto.com/manual_tr ... 5w71g.html

Nissan only offered one transmission for the 4 cylinder 4wd trucks but I think Greg fat-fingered the number. It should be a FS5W71C. Both the 2wd and 4wd used this transmission, along with countless other Nissan models over the years. the only difference is your will have a transfer case attached. They are tough to find, many of them burned up because of not enough lube. The remedy is to tilt the truck at an angle and 'overfill' the transmission by a quart. A lot of times the case cracked too so watch out for that if you go used.

Wow thanks to the both of you. You really helped me out and gave me a better understanding, i greatly appreciate this. I'll be sure to look for signs of a cracked case too. Fixing to drop the Transmission right now. Thanks again for the help.

If you're willing to pay for the shipment, you can have the one we have. It is in great condition. Both the gearbox and transfer case. We are parting out 1996 XE that has only 87.348km on it and it was owned it's hole life by a elderly couple. They changed oil on everything every year. But you would have to checkout how much it costs to ship it from Iceland. But as I said you can have it for free so to speak.

Speedometer probably is going to be different? Your also need to use the 1996 bell housing. Not sure if the 1982 will bolt up to the 1996?

I need some help. I recently had my clutch replaced and the idiot who did it didn't tighten criss cross applesauce and now I got a bolt missing. Since I cant seem to find them anywhere for sale, my next best option is to look at Home Depot or a hardware store. Ive been driving it without pressing the clutch for the past week. I can barely shift into first, and when I do the whole truck feels like a 7.0 earthquake whilst I let off the clutch from a stop. I can feel and hear the trans run quite rough. when I release the gas pedal in 1st 2nd and 3rd, and I kid you not, it sounds like a straight piped 18 wheeler downshifting and when I select it into 4th it always grinds. does anyone know the dimensions to those bolts to a 95 pickup? its a 1995 Nissan Pickup Standard bed 2.4, 5 speed. I'm not sure if its a KA24E or the VG30E engine. I only trusted this mechanic because my family mechanic, who was my granddad, moved away said he would leave me in good hands but I that turned out to be a total load of bull >.>

any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Bummer deal. I'm not sure about your description of the issue matching one loose bolt though. They 'mechanic' guy probably had your exhaust apart to get to the transmission. So, if he's the sort not to tighten properly, then your exhaust noise is probably the thing just coming undone at the joint. You need to get in there and follow up on his work or have someone else redo it. Honestly, it kind of sounds like you need to go all the way back in to the clutch and check those bolts as well. Basically, a complete do-over, hopefully with no new parts needed. This is your drivetrain. It needs to be bolted together properly for the safety of yourself and others on the road. Quick and easy? Take it to a clutch shop, get a quote for new clutch and tell them it's only labor, no parts. Pick the place that fits your budget.

Anyway, which bolt is missing please? You might be able to pull a similar bolt out and size match it at the store, but it depends on which one and where. They are different sizes depending on the location.

Also, how many cylinders does your engine have? KA is an inline four and VG is a V-6.
