ok.........heres the deal,

I just bought an s14 the other day and I realized that the tach is not working right. When the car is off, the needle is at 0. When I crank the car, the tach jumps to about 1 to 1 1/2 rpm. As I start driving, the needle slowly creeps up and up, not fluctuating at all with my motor's rpms. If you could please explain to me what the problem is and how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

either your sensor is gone.. which i dont know which sensor.. im sure one of the few that goes on the transmission.or your cluster is gone.

my truck had bad tach when the battery was almost dead.. dropped to 0 when brakes were applied.. but that doesnt seem your case.

car drives fine?

I have exact same problem. I start the car and after about 25 minutes of driving it has slowly creeped up until it is pegged out on the trip rest button.

Did you find a solution yet?

I replaced the ECU for other reasons and it did not fix the tach problem either.

I finally got around to replacing my tach with another stock one and it works fine! Good luck.
