Car: cars what else?

Post

Hi,

I have a 2001 nissan maxima gxe with 45,000 miles on it. I boght it used 3 months ago, and car has been fine. I was driving on the highway (for only 10 miles) when the check engine light came on. I pulled over right away. All of my fluids were at proper levels, and car seemed to run fine. THios just happens 30 minutes ago. I drove home and parked car. Is there any way to read trouble codes and any common problems. Please help!! i still have 13,000 to pay off on this car. Also i live in nebraska and closest nissan dealer is 60 miles away.

car is a 2001 nissan maxima gxe with automatic transmission.45,000 miles. runs good. :help

any help would be greatly appreciated.

you may have a code po 420 catalytic converter code. but not to fear there is a reprogram that corrects the condition and is under an emissions warrenty. take it to the dealer and have it reprogramed. if that isnt the code it could be a o2 sensor code which requires one or more rear o2's and a reprogram which should also be warrented.. if not one of those you could of left the gas cap off or loose when you got gas and an evap leak code po455 or po 465 could have been set this may cost you check out time to diag. since it isnt a failure in the vehicle but on operator fault. the 420 code is the most likely though

check to make sure your fuel cap is tight and the teather isnt caught under the cap. if all is good. drive it for a week or so .if the light was set by the fuel cap being loose it should go out after 2 or 3 consecutive good tests. if after a week it hasent gone out get to the dealer and have the code pulled. they may quote you a diagnosis fee but if it turns out to be one of the codes i mentioned before it is most likely covered by warrenty unless your car is a salvage. then nothing is covered.
