I was driving and noticed my battery light and parking brake light came on, then while heading home my in dash dvd/nav started flashing on and off then the car died and wouldnt restart, dead battery. I was blocking traffic so a state patrol came and I put it in neutral so he could push me over too the shoulder. I was able to get a jump and the car started but ran terrible and would not shift out of park.

The car is home now and the battery is dead, will take the battery to be tested tomorrow, and test the alternator.

But any ideas why it wont shift?

the car has 113k miles, oem plugs, has the possible sprk plug misfire comes and goes occassionally and sometimes the tcs and slip lights come on and stay on with some really rough idling but thats about it on the history of the car oil changes, and i did the ngk plugs when I realized it had some bosch ones in there.

any info very much appreciated

Your car won't shift out of park because the battery is dead so there's no way to activate the shift lock solenoid. I think you're on the right track with the alternator and battery tests.

ya hopefully, but when the tow truck came he had a jump box" and we tried to charge it for awhile and no luck getting it to shift, but now I know there is a shift lock solenoid, not likely it pooped, but maybe the thing needs a really good charge.

Also, in your opinion

my q has 113k on it, both front struts are bad, misfiring badly so prob the coil pack problem, also the tcs and slip lights like to come on with some really rough idiling, and the alternator is possibly bad

is this worth trying to fix everything? Im guessing at least 2k to get it back into shape, just wondering if it is worth my time and money or if maybe selling the q is a better way to go. I love the car, but it sucks right now

Depends on what you'll be replacing it with, budget, etc. $2000 is nothing if you're facing making $500/mo payments - you break even in 4 months. Not sure about the condition of everything else, but if the car is cosmetically good and otherwise mechanically sound, everything you mentioned is normal maintenence...

If you are not comfortable budgeting $3K annually for maintenance after you restore it to OEM as new mechanical condition, the car will never be right and you will always hate it.

agreed, and not to mention with the problems you listed, the car loses a TON of value...

Q45 (or any used luxury car for that matter) arent worth much as it is, let alone if they dont run right.
