I am going to be driving in my first SCCA PDX track event, and need a good helmet (SA rated for fire protection). Any recommendations?

Thanks -- good idea -- did so. (Of course, if anyone cares to reply here, that would be appreciated, too . . . .)

That's exactly how I took your comment, as being helpful -- no offense taken, of course!

Aside from the helmet...

You should seriously look into suspension mods for something like that. They'll help more than any performance mods would.

Can you offer recommendations re suspension mods? I don't think I'm interested in lowering, because I don't want to make my everyday ride less forgiving of bumps in the road. However, perhaps I don't know enough about it -- I'm open to any and all suggestions! (By the way, I've been getting helmet recommendations on the general chat forum.)

Racingline Rear Sway bar or Stillen RSB. RacingLine Strut bar and front/rear endlinks.

And then there's springs/coilovers. They will reduce ride quality but give you a lot more corning ability.

I love my BC coilovers. The drop is nice visually and for handling (and it's adjustable if you don't want it) and the dampening is adjustable. At 2/3 soft, it's only slightly rougher than stock, says my butt-dyno. I try to stiffen it up before I do anything serious, though. It has made a world of difference. It feels like I can take corners much faster than I used to be able to without worrying about losing it.

I'd say that this alone has been worth a lot more than any performance mod I could put on there. The opportunities for me to get to top speeds are far less common than the opportunities for me to pull lateral G's.

If you're going to get the coilovers, I'd watch out on those strut tower braces... I've read that they can be a pain to work in over the coilover bolts.
