Hi there, I just bought a black 91 Q45a w/158K. I've been kind of lurking in the shadows using the search button, as Max would suggest. I've replaced the alternator, battery, plugs, window switches, and complete stereo system based on previous posts. This is a great site here. My actsus is going south rather quickly so I will be ditching it in favor of Eibachs and Tokicos. I do all my own work, as I couldn't afford to own this car otherwise. I have been known as a mod freak, especially with my last car-Subaru SVX. I'm going to start by doing the 4.08 rear diff swap. I swapped Legacy diffs onto my SVX(3.54-4.11) and dropped a full second from the 0-60 and 1/4 mile. I'm hoping for similar results. Hoping being the key word. I can't say how far I will go after that. I may do a 100+ Hp shot of n2o along with maybe a larger exhaust diameter like I did on my SVX. I ended up dropping a total of 2.5 seconds on that car. But then again I may hurt N/A performance if I do. I built eleven different exhaust systems on my SVX until I made it just right. But I would definately leave it alone if I opt out on the nitrous. Oh well, the first thing is dealing with the actsus. I will be buying a parts car as well, maybe two if there is a demand for good low priced used parts. Nice to be here. Here is a link to my photos. I just got these chrome Albas off ebay.

Nice car Dr.Q. Are those windows tinted? I am in Portland next week. Maybe we can hook up one evening.

And, of course, welcome to the club!

Awesome car Dr. Q!

Welcome to NICO. Do some searches on the 4.08 rear end and you'll get some great information. As for the exhaust, BRM exhaust is currently developing a stainless steel exhaust for the Q that should help with performance as well as decrease vehicle weight. On the nitrous, search posts by Fred (PalmerWMD) on his Q. It seems that having nitrous up much above 75-100 shot blew an engine when Rex (aka Speedoctor and NICO founder) had the car.

The engine blowing didnt happen, until many repeated quarter mile runs were made with 175 shot.

One surmised the Q is perfectly safe to 100 given its stout internals, even our most conservative club Guru feels that way.

<But> its painful to be ever mistune anything as these engines arent cheap or easy to install/replace.

Fred..:)

PS: Welcome to our little club.:jazz:

welcome to the board....these guys are great and very helpful as I just found this board about a month ago. I was about the sell my car and then I found this board and decided to keep it, fix it up, put on a few performance mods, and then let my baby scream down the highway again hauling some butt and surprising a few others along the way

Hey, thanks for all the welcomes people.

maxnix-The windows are tinted with a 35% bronze 3M tint. The receipt says they were done in 1990, but it more looks like yesterday. The paint on these cars seems amazingly durable as well. Just gimme a call when you're down here. I'll pm you my #.

As for nitrous, I will probably be using the same setup that I used on my SVX. It had a ZEX LT1 kit adjustable from 55-125. I settled on the 105 jet which worked very well. I'm not sure what kind of traction issues I may find with the Q. With the SVX, I never once spun my tires, even with 350hp on rain soaked streets. I'm pretty excited about the rear end swap. I know first hand what a huge differnce it can make. I've done many searches on that and I'm happy to know it will be easier that I have the 'a' model with the four channel ABS.

That yellow SVX in the photos was my car. I built it up that way and then sold it in December. That car kept me very busy. I hated to part with it, but I needed a four door for my kids. Also, I wanted something a little more conservative looking. I may get another one in the future. They are very cheap to buy with a blown transmission.

Thanks again for the welcome. I can see that I'll be here a lot.

I actually put a Legacy 5-spd and rear diff in my SVX. That's starting to become a popular thing to do. Are there any donor cars for a Q45 manual swap? I may have to get a second one.

Yeah, some of us are grumpy SOB's, but I'm sure you're used to that on any forum. ;)

Well, I like V-8s and I'll only drive Japanese cars. It's nice to buy a $55000 car for $3000 when it is almost all still there. The fun part is bringing back to like new. It's a great blend of performance and luxury and it is worth putting money into. Oh yeah, it's cool as hell too. :D
